Hello guys, I'll try my best to describe this to you. My uncle has a Sony Entry level HTDV, 32". He just ordered Rogers Digital Cable set top box, and I helped him hook every thing up. Now, I'm not too impressed with the quality of the picture he is recieving. He might as well just stayed with analog cable. The Rogers box they gave him, just has s-video and normal audio/video outs. Does this mean it is broadcasting in STDV? What is the best way to connect this to an HTDV? I noticed my uncle's tv has the component or composite inputs, or what ever u call them, the RGB. Does he have to order a different box from rogers?

If he want's High Definition, he has the wrong box. He needs to get the SA3100HD, unless he's in Atlantic Canada, where there is an equivalent Motorola box. Here's a helpful link about Rogers HD service.

I don't know if you're aware of the Canadian Digital Television site. Please come and visit us at:

Digital Home Canada (http://www.digitalhomecanada.com/forums/index.php)

We have no end of discussions regarding Rogers.

Since your uncle has a Sony, here's a link to some Sony "issues":

Thanks for the help 57U. My uncle wants to switch his digital cable box from rogers to the new one. So I'll be calling them first thing tuesday morning and swapping it for the HTDV ready version. I hope it makes a difference on his TV, because right now, watching through the tv's internal line doubbler sux ass.

Here are a couple of comments regarding the SA3100HD STB.

1. I don't believe they are stocking these at the Rogers stores yet.

2. You need to order it and a technician will come to his home to install it. The technican checks the signal strength and also makes sure that the STB is hooked up properly and that you get HDTV and the other channels properly.

3. If he already has the SA3100 (non-HD), there will not be a signficant difference in the standard def signals, unless there is something wrong with the current box, which there may be.

4. As I mentioned in my Sony link, some Sony TVs do not go a good upconversion of SD signals. Let's hope this is not the case here.

5. Let us know how you make out.

6. Here's a link to the various new Rogers Bundles (http://www.shoprogers.com/store/cable/digitaltvcontent/bundles.asp) . If your uncle requires broadband internet, these are very good prices. If not, you'll need to look at other "standard" package pricing.
