I recently bought a sirt351 ota tuner. I live in Farmersville ( a suburb or Dallas) and am between 60 and 65 miles from the towers. I get decent reception with a set top antenna. I am having audio drop out problems with the fiber optic connection to my receiver. I have read a few other places and this seems to be a firmware issue. Has anybody else with this stb experianced the same issue? I keep forgetting to bring my serial # information so I can contact Samsung's support.

I have never had that problem with mine. Is it optical only that drops? Is it all channels or just a few? Have you replaced the optical cable?

I suspect poor reception. 60 miles with an indoor antenna lucky. Outdoor antenna at 60 miles is 'pushing it'.
Here's a test...
hook up the the analog outputs (Red/white) temporarily to your TV or A/V receiver. If you still get dropouts... then that eliminates the fiber.
It very well could be a 'firmware' bug which can easily be answered/addressed by Samsung. But... I would try to get an antenna outdoors to try to improve your reception and see if it helps.
If I see any audio issues with the 351 reported elsewhere, I'll report back.

I have the analog (red/white) connected to the tv, no audio drop out there. The audio drops out on the optical on all the channels.

Does the 351 and the audio receiver have digital coax? Try that.
Or as Kevinw stated... may be a bad optical cable. Try another.

The towers in the dfw metroplex are pretty good. I am getting an outdoor antenna next pay because even though I can get hd channels, regular broadcast reception suxz on the rest of the tv's in the house, well except for the spanish broadcast stations which you can get in clear as a bell with rabbit ears anywhere in the metroplex. I only have one sat box, and that is in the living room where the hd tuner is also.
The audio drops out on the fiber and the coax digital outputs. It's kind of annoying too, I have to turn my receiver off to watch hd shows and am so used to surround sound, it is kind of jarring just hearing sound from the tv.

I have a maddening problem with droupouts even when I have strong signal. I called Samsung Customer Support & they were pretty helpful---sending me a pre-paid UPS tag for shipping to them. I discovered the dropouts are caused by certain sound frequencies, like a loud whistle or simply by clapping my hands or laughing. Of course, TV programs will eventually have those sounds and drive you nuts. So, try clapping your hands when watching an HD program(also try a variety of channels) & see if you get the dropout. If so, call Samsung & ask for a repair.

Noise wasn't causing the audio to drop out on my stb. I have a sony receiver and it has a blue light that goes on and off when a digital audio source is connected (annoying as heck with this stb). I've read you post that issue somewhere else, so I turned the sound all the way down on my receiver and tv and the digital signal light was still flickering. Samsung emailed me the firmware update and mailed the cable. After updating the firmware, I no longer get the problems with the audio dropping out, but the reception is not any where as near as good as what it was. I do live quite a bit a ways from the broadcast towers, so I will report back on the reception issues after I move back to town next month.
