Went to best buy to look at the PRogressive scan dvd players tonight, and they had an open box, no manual, no power cord, no remote RP56 for $119. I snagged it up.. why not I said...
Went to the cable section, and picked up a power cord that the salesman said shoudl work.
So I get home, plug it in, and its working for like 15 minutes..
Then it starts to skip a bit...
I was watching SUPERBIT Gattaca..
I shutdown immediately...
Restart, and it gives me the H02 Error..
I get online, and that error means to get it serviced..
So should I return it to best buy for $119, or get it serviced for free? Im sure it will take weeks to get the parts in at the service location..
Hmm

Return it. I went to buy a Sony Sat-T60 at Best Buy. All they had was an open box, no power cord, no manual, no Hu card. I was still interested. The sales guy took the T60 to a register to see how much it was originally before telling me a price. He dropped it. Looked it over and said he would give it to me for $250. True story, happened yesterday. I had a 2 hour wait for dinner so I shot into Best Buy. . . .
The point is, you don't know what happened to that RP56. It could have been dropped. A disc could have been spinning in there 24 hours a day for months. Even after you get one thing fixed, another problem might pop up. It is definately not worth the 60 bucks savings.
Another story. My friend bought an open box Sony HDTV (not sure on the model but it is 4:3), and the extended warranty from Best Buy. The day he got it home it crapped out. He got it fixed. And a week later, a circuit board went out. Had it replaced. Now it is out again and he is trying to get a new set because of that 3 thing wrong lemon guarantee. They are making all kinds of excuses.
If you want to save some money, just go online. You can get the RP56 for around $185. No tax, but shipping.

I agree 100% take it back right away, you have no idea what the player has been through. Definetely not worth the headache.

Let this be a lession to anyone who buys at Best Buy. I used to be the Director of Manufacturing at a large computor company. Best Buy would open the boxes containing the computors and return them as defective for credit. They did not even unwrap the units. This was the way they controled thier inventory. A company either has ethics or it doesn't. If they are willing to cheat thier suppliers why would you expect them to treat thier customers any beter.
