Anyone know why my sound cuts out for about a second or two when watching hd channels with my motorola cable box from comcast? It
might do this once or twice after first tuning the channel in, go for an hour or two and maybe do it once or twice more sporadically in between.

Check audio cables.
Place a call to Comcast and request them to investigate to trouble.
May be a bad box or bad signal levels.
Occasional Audio and/or Video dropouts are "normal" for most cable boxes - say once or twice an hour. Some channels rarely have dropouts - regular networks, while some channels seem to have it more - PBS. Since it's often channel-specific, it may be the originating channel that is part of the cause.

When I had comcast out to replace my 3100HD with a 3250HD because of sound problems, I was told that it wouldn't fix the problem because in one of Comcast's software updates in the last few months there was an error that caused the sound problems and tey are currently trying to fix it. Well, I still have them maybe once or twice a day, where as before it was 3-4 times during every show i watched.
Basically, Comcast is haveing a problem and they are trying to fix it supposedly.

Hey All,
I too have problems with the digital audio output on 3250HD cable box? Sometimes mine works fine but I have to power off / on the cable box and NOT change the channel when it finally does work. But 90% of the time it 'bounces' in & out of reception. I thought it was my Pioneer receiver that was at fault but after plugging the same line into my DVD player... I had no problems? 5.1 Digital loud & clear!!! I am thinking of calling Charter for a new cable box... maybe upgrading to DVR? Any thoughts? Maybe a firmware issue as well?
Check your signal strength. See the FAQ on "Tips for SA STBs".
