1- Can DVI carry SD signals in addition to HD signals? For example, if I only run 1 input from my HD STB to my TV can I just run a DVI cable? Or will this only enable the HD channels and I'll be out of luck with the others?

2- Assuming that DVI can carry everything, is there any advantage to watching SD channels over an S-Video connection vs. a DVI connection? The reason I ask is that I'm was going to have a S-Video feed from my STB as well as a DVI feed. If there is no difference in the picture for the non high def. channels, then I may as well just use DVI.

BTW, my component inputs on my TV are already going to be used by a progressive scan-DVD and Xbox. This is why I was interested in the DVI connection.

Thanks much.

1. DVI can carry SD

2. I don't see any advantage to using an S-Video input, unless your STB won't let you mess with the picture. Meaning, if wanted to zoom or stretch or whatever, some TVs won't do this with the DVI input but will with the s-video input. But thats up to you.

Some people see a better PQ using the S-video cable for the SD channels. You should just try it and see if it is better or not for you. It would be easier not to have two different inputs.
