The current major hi-def capable boxes available for cable (non PVR) that the providers are using and have installed for their customers are:
1) Sci Atl SA3250HD
2) Pioneer 3510HD
3) Motorola 5100 (?)
4) Pace 550-DC
5) Others that I don't know about
Anyone know of the similarities and/or differences between these boxes? All things being equal, which one is preferable to have?
1. You rarely have a choice in companies - it's usually Motorola or SA. More options will be available in the future as cable companies "allow" more equipment to be connected. Motorola cannot be connected to SA head ends though...
2. I'd suggest that the SA8000HD (with DVR) is the best of the lot. Do a search on the site. The Motorola 6208 only has a single tuner and smaller HDD.

The Moto 6412 which is due out soon should be more competitive with the SA8000HD.

I'm not arguing that point. I'm just curious to see what box has turned out to be the best of the bunch.
I'd say typically "the latest one" because the newer models address issues of the previous models. As I mentioned earlier, at this time, that is likely the SA8000HD.
