Is anyone using the new JVC DVHS recorder? I was fortunate to win one at the recent Widescreen Review demonstrations in California. I have purchased all DVHS movies on the market (except "Big Momma's House"), and have recorded over 40 hours of OTA content with a Panny set (firewire connected).

I have experimented with SVHS tapes as opposed to DVHS tapes. How about you other folks? What have your experiences been? This unit, and the DVHS Theater movies available, is really fantastic!

You lucky dog. In addition to Dr. John's questions:

1. I guess the only way to hook it up is via Firewire inputs?

2. My cable STB does not have firewire out, so I guess I would be out of luck - what are most people using as "feed" to the DVHS for recording?

3. Does the DVHS unit output component video or only firewire there too?

I found the answer to this quetion in the following link. It does have component video out.

DVHS Recorder (http://www.tvauthority.com/subpages/product.asp?dept=7&cat=&prod=324&aff=5119)

4. Were any of the earlier units component video in?

Comments:

A. Although this unit was about $2k a year ago, it's now available for as little as $825 (searched the web).

B. Apparently, some "older" STBs are not compatible, even though they are firewire (read in one of the reviews).
