I have been looking for a 32-36 inch flat-screen TV.

The problem is on the HDTV side. I have cable, but not a satelitte.
I do have a DVD player that does progressive playing.

BUT ..... The HDTVs seem to cost aboout $500.00 or so more than the analog.

I do nat have a lot of money so what I have done ... is nothing. I have not seen the HDTV going down, then I was told that I would need yet another adapter and possible pay more for cable for a couple of stations. Plus if I did not have a box, for TV, the HDTV would mave my DVDs look better but not by TV ?

I am real confused and it appears, in the U.S. (Colorado), that a 32-36 good quality analog TV that has all the audio jacks I need for my amplified speakers and my DVD player, is not worth about double the price.

What is you opnions. I would love to have all the bells and whistles, but do not know enough to justify the difference in the pricing.
Feel free to name names of prodicts.

Thanks so much in advance.

An HD ready TV IMO is the way to go. I would also recommend a widescreen (16:9) set. It think it will be worth the extra $$.

You already have cable, so all you would need is to contact your cable company and rent an HD cable box (approx. $6 per month). You should be able to get all of your locals basically for free. Also, if you already sub to HBO, HBO-HD is not an extra charge. (Call your cable provider for HD progarmming availability first to be sure).

An HD ready TV will enhance your viewing pleasures with DVD greatly.

or get an HDTV with a built in HD tuner, and pay nothing extra per month... You can always get a HDTV STB as well and pay alittle extra. It all depends on how much you are willing to spend, but buying an HDTV is the way to go!

or get an HDTV with a built in HD tuner, and pay nothing extra per month!

Beware... "built in" tuners available today (if they are QAM ATSC decoders) will only receive 'unencrypted' cable channels. Otherwise, they are OTA only (with the exception of a few RCA TV's).

IMO... $6 per month extra for an existing cable subscriber for HD is less expensive and more convenient.

OTA is the BEST option (if your looking for no frills), but... you are at the mercy of the the local transmitters, your location, antenna placement and type of antenna required.

It's a toin coss (joke)...

built in... stuck with that tuner/receiver for the life of the TV.
external... easily upgradable. Buy/rent/lease and change as needed.

It really depends on the individuals desires.
