I just purchased a new Samsung 16;9 26 inch tube set for my bedroom. I have a few problems. The first one is when the set is on I get a high pitch buzz. This can be heard over the normal volume level. Secondly, the whites are over saturated and maybe why the set has this loud buzz. Third this model does receive the digital and H.D. channel fine but this set has a Qam tuner and does not find the digital cable channels that Comcast sends. Any Ideas? possibly I will be returning this back to Best Buy for a refund.
1. Try turning down the contrast and brightness to see if that alleviates the buzz. See the FAQ on "What you need to do to your new HDTV".
2. Most digital cable channels are scrambled, therefore your internal QAM tuner cannot receive them. If you want digital cable, you need to get a STB from the cable company. You will note that the specifications and your operating manual probably discuss the issue that the QAM tuner only gets "unscrambled" cable.

High pitched 'buzz' or 'squeal' could be caused by your contrast set too high (called 'white buzz'). If this is case... usually when white text is displayed, the buzz gets worse.
If not, it may be a faulty 'flyback' transformer.
Try lowering the settings as 57U suggests. If that doesn't help... then you may want to return/replace the set.
Also, the QAM issue is as 57U stated.

I did what you suggested and turned down brightness and contrast all the way off and the same loud annoying buzz. Also when the auto scan seeks cable digital channels the tuner stops a the 130 channels. Are the digital cable channels higher in numerical numbers ? I will return this set tomarrow. Thank you all for the tips and response to my questions.

Keep in mind no TV you buy is going to be able to receive HD from your cable without a box from the cable company.

Matt, that is not totally true. There are some cableco's that do not encrypt the local HD channels and they can be received with the built-in QAM tuners in some HDTVs. However, anything other than locals will require a box from the cableco.

I know that, just doesn't sound like that's the case with the cable company aerialist is using, didn't want him thinking a different TV would get him channels that he can't get with the current one he's returning.

Matt, I considered that, but since 57U already mentioned that and Ratman ditto'd it, I figured you might just be making a general comment about built-in tuners. I took aerialist's comment to mean he intended to return the set because of the hum, not because it can't receive encrypted QAM. You point is well taken though and probably needed to be restated to make sure aerialist understands that part. Sorry if I misunderstood your intent. At any rate, it sure sounds like aerialist has a bum set, doesn't it?

Yes it does sound like he has other problems with that TV, I'd be returning it too :)

 The people at Best Buy took the set back with no question. I was amazed not to be directed to purchase another H.D.T.V set. I will wait until the fall when new arrivals of Sony and various other brands arrive. I cant mention enough how this forum is very helpful and consise.
