View Full Version : Off-center picture for SD broadcasts...

I have a Panasonic 47wx53 and get my programming via a Hughes DirecTV tuner and a Radio Shack indoor OTA HD antenna. Here's my question:

Is it normal for the black bars on SD (non-HD) broadcasts to be off-center? On some channels, the left bar is narrow while the right bar is wide, while on other channels, the picture is perfectly centered and thus both side-bars are the same width. Because it varies by channel, it leads me to believe it's the signal. Also, a non-HD show on DirecTV can have different size side-bars than the same program via the OTA HD-antenna signal. Weird.

BTW, when I turn the STB off, the TV shows side-bars with the same width.

Am I being picky, or is there a problem? - and if so, can I do something about it. Apologies if this has been discussed before - I couldn't find it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I noticed the same thing when I connected up a Hughes HTL-Hd receiver to my new Samsung. If you are using the DVI input, there is an option that you need to change that has to do with the DVI spec you are using. I think it was a DVI setting under the Preference menu. I will recheck the manual.

Yes, I am using a DVI connection between the STB and the TV - I'll check the manual also; you are referring to the Hughes manual, yes?

Thanks for your help!
