Can't timeshift HD on JVC DVHS

I just purchased a JVC HM-DH40000 DVHS recorder. Its connected to a Motorola 6200 Comcast Cable Box. Motorola is running v 7.10.

Two problems...

1. I can't set the JVC to timeshift. There's no way to select I-1 (my firewire signal from the Motorola) for timer recording. I can manually record on I-1. I talked to JVC tech support and they said the inability to timeshift was part of the 5C encryption standard. What's up with that? I now have a recorder that can't timeshift HD? Worthless... Is there a way to timeshift by controlling the JVC DVHS via the Motorola 6200?

2. INHD channels will record for a few seconds and then it won't record. I don't know if my signal degrades and there isn't enough bandwidth between the motorola and the DVHS.

There could be several issues.

1. The firewire port of the 6200 may not be properly set up by the cable provider.

2. The programme you're trying to record is not "allowed" to be recorded - depends on the "flag" of the particular programme. OTA-type programmes are "free" to record, try those first (Any channel that you would normally be able to get OTA).

3. Some premium programming will not "allow" recording by an external device.

4. You may wish to see if you can get the SA6208 STB nstead of the SA6200 if you're renting - it will allow you to record anything except PPV... There may be a slight additional charge.

Im curious as to the process you go through to manually set up the recording? Ive got a JVC dh30000 and Time Warner Cable has me a STB that has a firewire out.

I havent been successful in getting anyone from TW or from JVC to help me get DVHS HD recording up and running for me.

Please shed some light on the process for me. I have no earthly idea how to get it going, and ive done everything i can possibly think of.
