well as of yesterday i went to a meeting with some of the trainers and we are fully ready and do support DRC TV's meaning digital ready cable tvs we had the panasonic model in use in the room which just had a coax cable hooked up to it and without any kind of box received all analog, digital, and HD channels it was totally cool... only problem at this point is there are only one way digital cable cards out right now so NO PPV NO IPG but 2 way cards are supposed to be out by 2005 so we will support then when they do come out but it was soooo cool to have every single channel with no box... its coming people DRC's are going to be the next big thing for 2005 i predict.....

Same here Mike. We had the overview on it last week. The only set that supports these cards at the moment on the new Panasonic Line I guess. I heard they are like 1200 bucks more then without the card. I wouldn't touch the card because it's not two way. No On Demand, and No PPV ordering by remote. I think i'd rather save 1200 bucks and rent a $5 stb for the rest of my life. That way you know you'll have the latest technology and not have to fork another 1200 bucks for it.

true true but i really think these tvs will be geared towards people who dont want a DCT and who have never had one anyway plus like i said the 2 way cards are coming out next year anyway...

LOL.. Next year will turn into 2 years I bet. Who knows. I think my office will see maybe 1 of these installs in 6 months. I love the advancements in technology, but I don't think this is a great start to it.

Well.. I was looking at circuitcity.com today and saw the panasonic 53wx63 for 1549 on sale and also comes with 250 in rebates or something to make it 1200 bucks or so. This is the new cable card hdtv. Very cheap!

This from the NY Times :
Cable providers and electronics manufacturers, however, agree that one-way cards will succeed only if retailers make clear what the cards can and cannot do. The fear, the companies and analysts say, is that electronics shop clerks, eager to earn commissions, will give consumers incorrect information, leading to returns and recriminations.
"Consumers have to be savvy to fully understand all the variations," said Aditya Kishore, a cable industry analyst at the Yankee Group. "There are a lot of little pieces to the puzzle and it is confusing."
In the meantime, the cable and electronics industries are working on developing a two-way card. Unlike the one-way deal, satellite, technology and entertainment companies are also part of the current discussions. One big stumbling block in the new round of talks is finding ways to protect copyrights, said participants in the meetings, who predict that an agreement on two-way cable cards is unlikely to be reached for several more years.

Great! I'm spoiled on the IPG. Wife wants to get a flat panel tv for our bedroom sometime soon. Something in the 20" range.
Not sure I wanna pay a $1200 premium to go without a box, though.
