I have a Sony Sat-H200 Receiver and I want to record in HD..Is there one out there that wouldn't be so complicated and have to touch 20 buttons to record in HD?
Thanks

Well Directv and Tivo just put outa HD DVR Sat receiver.. My uncle paid 1K for it. Seems a little steep. I'm not sure who else offers one because I'm not up on the Sat stuff to much.

I'm sure dish is offering something also.. I'm sure if you do a search here you will find a bunch of info on this matter. I know the directv tivo just came out at the end of May I think and there is a big waiting list because they aren't making enough. My uncle was on the waiting list before they came out and paid a whopping grand for it. He's out of his mind, lol. But I guess if you have the money, then spend it.

A Grand doesn't seem that expensive when you add up all the things it does. It replaces an DirecTV HD reciever ($400-500) an OTA HD reciever ($300-400) and a D-VHS recorder ($200-300). If you add in the fact that it has dual tuners for both SAT & OTA it's $1000 cost is cheap. Total=$1100-$1400. Dual tuners, $1600-$2200.
With the NFL ticket showing 85 games this year in HD, you can't miss.

Since all DirecTV receivers also do OTA, you can't count an OTA receiver as a savings. Also, since you can't save unlimited HD recordings without a D-VHS (or something), you also can't count that as a savings. So, in essence you pay $1000 for temporary HD storage and dual-tuners to save the cost of a standard DirecTV/OTA HD receiver. And, if you think dual tuners actually doubles the cost of the box to begin with, I have some Arizona beach front property I'd like to sell you. :)
I'm not saying it isn't worth the price, but the math just doesn't add up. It's probably worth the price just as a replacement HD box with very robust recording software, no need to exaggerate the savings. :whistle:

Don't know about you guys but I'm pretty happy with my Panasonic DVD/disc recorder.
Records in 480p, looks good and dosen't break the bank, wait a year or 2 for the prices to drop

Also, since you can't save unlimited HD recordings without a D-VHS (or something), you also can't count that as a savings. For every blank D-VHS tape you buy to give yourself "unlimited" recording, I can add hard drives to my HR10-250. Your just being picky.
And, if you think dual tuners actually doubles the cost of the box to begin with, I have some Arizona beach front property I'd like to sell you. No it doesn't double the cost, but to perform the same function as the HR10-250 you would need to buy 2 tuners.
You missed the point. To do what the Hr10-250 does you would need all those units. EX: if I wanted to record 1 HD show on OTA and another from DirecTV. I would need an OTA STB ($300) with an D-VHS ($300) to record that show then, A DirecTV HD box ($300) and an D-VHS ($300) to record the other.
Total= $1200, Perfect Math.

For those using Satellite providers, see the Dish 921 DVR at:

No, I didn't miss the point, I knew that you were saying. But now you've gone and changed your math again. These latest numbers I can agree with for the most part, though you still didn't account for all those HDDs to store all that HD you are recording. If you need to use this kind of math to justify your purchase, fine. Me? I'd just buy the thing and not worry about justifying it with that kind of logic/math. :)
