Sorry if this topic has been brought up before:

We have an older (2000) RCA DirectTV HD box that works great, and would like to use with our new RCA DLP monitor. The issue is connectivity.

The "digital" output from the HD box looks like a regular VGA connector (it is a VGA cable), and the only digital input to the monitor is DVI. I have found vga to DVI converters, but understand that most are designed for computer video cards.

Any ideas? Watching blurry HD is not what we got the set for.

Thanks - Tom

You need to buy the VGA to component converted thats designed for this unit! Im assuming you are talking about the RCA DTC100 HD unit right!? If so follow the link

Thanks, I'll look into this. Will the composite input to the DLP be HD quality?

The box is a DTC100.

Yes, composite is capable of carrying a HD signal.

"Yes, composite is capable of carrying a HD signal."

For some reason, I've missed this thread up until now, but composite doesn't carry an HD signal, it can only carry 480i, and at that, probably only about 400 lines.

Component video (the three cables that are Red/Green/Blue) do carry HD signals. See the FAQ on Cables & Connections. Do not confuse composite/component.

Although you may be able to "see" the HD channel on your TV via a composite connection, you are not seeing HD, the STB has downconverted the HD signal to 480i.
