First time posting to this site. I've used it many times to find information. I've got a question I don't think I've been able to find.
I've got a Samsung SIR-TS160, which can handle OTA and a cable input. I have Cablevision service. I can pay $10 to cablevision and get a few addtional local HD channels that DirecTV doesn't currently offer. But of course that requires an SA 4200HD receiver. Does anyone know if I can use my TS160 and get the HD content from Cablevision without having to get an additional STB?

The answer is no! :( Cablevision as well as other cable companies HD cable boxes are design to decode the HD signal thats sent out on their line. Your Samsung Directv HD unit decodes a different signal which is not compatible! You must have the SA 4200HD receiver that CableVision requires! Hope this answer you question!
Just to clarify a bit further, OTA is 8-VSB, while most digital cable is QAM (and scrambled). It'd be like trying to receive FM on an AM radio.

I figured as much. Which would explain why I know in the past when I've hooked up my Samsung to my cable why I didn't see the HD channels just the Basic channels. Wasn't sure if I didn't run the auto channel correctly. Now the question is would it kill me to have an extra STB for a few extra local HD channels. If I could only get my OTA HD signals out of NYC. Thanks a ton!!
