Why does every other Time Warner Cable system in the country carry INHD1&2, HDNet and HDMovie, ESPN and we in NYC havent had a new channel since last October. Its strange that people in South Carolina have more HD then the 8 million people in NYC???? Im ready to switch to RCN who blows away TWC in NYC s far as programming choices!!! Ive heard rumors of Bandwidth problems does anyone have any info, customer service at TWC is next to useless as far as info...
thanks,
rob

Well do you have INHD 1 and 2 , HDNet and HDmovie....We do not in NYC and its an outrage......maybe its because we have no other choice in NYC but to go with TWC and they know it...satelite is not an option in the city and RCN doesnst cover many areas. The only thing worse then the # of HD channels is the lame customer service who barely knows what HD stands for....

Here in San Antonio, we have the locals (ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, no FOX because our FOX station here sucks, no WB or UPN either), INHD1 & 2, HDNet, HDNet Movies, TNT, Discovery HD, HBO and Showtime. I don't think any Time Warner outlet in the country has ESPN, which is an outrage. They say they are "negotiating" but that's a crock to me.

There have been articles about TWC in NYC I have read regarding bandwidth issues in NYC for HD channel availability.
HD channels consume more bandwidth than SD ones, as you might know. :D
NYC has so many other channels (read: local and foreign/special interest) than most cities have in the other TWC locations mentioned, that it can only offer what it can for now.
NOTE: If the you still have analogue channels on your system so the subscribers with only analogue cable ready sets can receive CTV without a box, instead of digital ones, they can grab a lot more bandwidth than you think, up to 14 digital SD channels per one analogue one.
HD is about 2-3 SD channels per HD channel and this is based on the following:
Our TWC contact on our HDTV Milwaukee website said that the 70 analogue channels that are still existing in the Milwaukee system, for those who don't want a cable box (for digital), once eradicated, would generate approx. 140 HD channels and 140 SD digital channels more than there are now existing. Think of what you could get in NYC then, including the other TWC systems around the country!

We don't have HD DVRs like you do (or is it Austin?) or some other TWC locations, either. It differs from location to location with TWC. IF your FOX station is owned and operated like ours in the Milwaukee area, they broadcast in 720p (upconverted for now until the shows in fall, which are true 720p), you get TWC FOX HD on your system. If your local WB and UPN stations do not broadcast in HD and/or your local TWC system cannot negotiate them to be on their system with the local station, you won't get it, either (we don't). :boo2:
Some cable companies have ESPN-HD (I know-most) but do not offer HDNET and HDNET Movies, either. I checked the cable companies serving Dallas (Mark Cuban's backyard) and found no HD channel listing for HDNET on some of the cable companies there.
I would not personally want to be gouged for ESPN-HD unless it was part of an extended HD tier, like the second one above the HDNET/INHD one. :D

Looks like TWC is changing an analogue channel out to get HD channels for you in NYC with that timeframe.
Good for NYC.
What has become the standard "HD Tier" for TWC subcribers around the country consists of the following 4 HD channels :
HDNET, HDNET Movies,INHD 1 and INHD2.
THese are HD full time channels with mostly 5.1 DD sound.
If the TWC CSR told you ESPN-HD is coming before 2005, great.
Maybe they could add Bravo HD+ with ESPN-HD for another $2 to sweeten the possible price increase (usually happens at the end of the year) or call it "HD Tier 2". ;)
Maybe you will get TNT-HD,too, as the analogue is so awful that I just started watching the HD version, while mostly upconverted,is very watchable with 5.1 DD sound.

Thanks for the info but I have been hearing this from TWC since last summer when a rep told me we would be getting a bunch of new channels...then it was the end of this summer, now its late Sept early October!!!! Maybe RCN doesnt have their own chat area but their HD package blows away Time Warner here in NYC. Id be willing to pay 20 bucks a month for 5 more channels.....Its 2004 isnt it??? Have a good weekend all

We do have HD DVR's in San Antonio. I have to admit, it's very nice. 80 hours of regular recording time... 20 hours HD. It's nice. But I hate the fact that we keep getting the run around from TWC folks saying ESPN-HD is on the way.

It will be hard for TWC to keep from having it as every other satellite and cable system in the country has ESPN-HD.
A second HD Tier priced competitively would work with only those willing to have it would pay for it.

I hope no one at TWC sees this quote. One HD tier is enough!! If they add a second tier whats to stop them from added a 3rd or 4th tier. My wallet couldn' handle that.

"We have been unable to add more HD channels due to a lack of bandwidth, however we are in the process of recapturing some bandwidth that will allow us to offer more HD channels, better VOD access and Voice over IP. We expect to make significant changes to our HD offering by the end of the year. Regarding HD DVR, we are expecting a final release of the software necessary to operate the HD DVR on our system. We expect these units to be release to customers in the next few months.
Hope this information helps. Thanks for your patience and patronage."

New HD channels should be at the top of TWCNYC's list. Its embarrassing that we literally have 1 HD channel (& the networks), not including PBS. If anyone has anymore information on when we are getting ESPNHD, HDNET--etc..

Cinemax ,Starz, TMC, Bravo, WB, TNT, Bravo and ESPN. We are already paying for all of these Digital channels and every one of them has an HD channel as well. Why, if we are paying for the standard channels(ie.HBO,SHO) dont we get their respective HD channels? :headscrat :headscrat Bandwidth probel is solved so whats the excuse now. I think the people who set the rate increases, EVERY YEAR, should be put in charge of adding HD channels, they seem to be much more reliable. Monopoly= No incentive to improve :boo2: :boo2:
