I'm ready to buy, and really like the Philips LCoS tech. Unfortunately, all I can find is the 55 inch model, which seems a bit big for my space (7-foot viewing distance, though if push comes to shove I can reconfigure to about 10 feet).

I see mention of 44-inch models on various web sites, but I can't tell if they're really coming out or not. The Philips site, unfortunately, is not at all helpful.

Anyone know if Philips is going to release the 44-inch models (preferably the one with Pixel Plus) at any point in the near future?

You may want to rethink the LCoS decision. Many calibraters are steering people away, since LCoS has not lived up to its potential and has a low contrast ratio. Early indications are that images only look good during bright scenes.

In my humble opinion, stay away from LCoS and look at a CRT based RPTV or a DLP set.

It could have been the setup (they may be pushing Samsung, I don't know) and I didn't play with the controls, but it looked a little washed out compared even the the 55" Samsung HLN, and it was blown away by the 50" Samsung HLP which was probably the best picture I saw other than the Plasma sets. One of these days, I need to get the remotes and check them out a little better. BTW, they were all on an HD feed from Discovery Channel.

Thanks for the perspective. I had been giving the Samsungs a look. Maybe I'll take a closer look at the HLPs before settling on LCoS.

All of the DLP Samsungs I have seen are amazing. If I had the cash - that would have been the tv I got.

...all these trouble posts I keep seeing here and on the AVS forum. I wish I had next year's Consumer Reports with the user reliability survey in it to see if Samsung DLPs really are that much trouble. I am still holding out to see before I buy. Also, I don't like silver TVs. I want black. LG is black this year, but they have the old chip and they didn't look as good in the store as the Samsung with the 3-chip. I wonder what the 2+ chip will look like next to the 3. To many unanswered questions for me to buy yet.

I don't have any personal experience with the Philips LCoS TV's but if you're still interested in the 44" model after you do more research you can go to OneCall.com (http://ww1.onecall.com/About.mpt?ShowAnyway=1&ProductLineID=11&SubLineID=40&ManufacturerID=0) they have two different 44" models of the Philips Cineos LCoS TV's. Obviously one is last years model and one is this years, I hope this helps.

I am thinking of moving my 27" direct view HDTV to bedroom and getting new set for living froom.

Has only seen a review (online or print) for any Phillips LCoS sets.

I saw this online

Philips debuted their 44PL9773 Single Panel LCOS 44-inch Wide Screen system at CES and won the "Best of Innovation" award. The set features PixelPlus and Digital Natural Motion technology that allows for a sharp, more fluid picture. Compact and sleek, the set will fit nicely into any modern decor. Like most of the newer HDTVs, it doesn't weigh much and the depth of set is fairly slim, allowing it to easily fit in your media room.
The fact that it won "Best of Innovation @ CES 2004 should mean something? However I haven't seen it reviewed by any credible source.

EDIT:
I found this review on avs. http://archive2.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?threadid=262607

Reviewer seems to believe the contrast although low is similar to DLP?

I am a little afraid of DLP. In comparing dlp vs lcos:
CONS FOR DLP
* Moving parts (color wheel, & micro mirrors).
* Screen door effect
* Rainbow effect

CONS FOR LCOS
* Expensive
* New tech - possible unknown problems, lifespan issues, etc.
* Lower contrast?

Has anyone seen a DLP and lcos sets (same size) viewed side by side? I am wondering how much lower lcos contrast is vs DLP. I know CRT is king of contrast but I don't want a CRT set (to big, my wife will NEVER go for it :argue2: )
