Just had a question. I have a 55859 and was wondering whether to buy a progressive scan dvd player for it or not? I have heard that the line doubler in the tv is better than in most progressive scan dvd players so that the progressive scan dvd players are useless on this set. I am currently using my xbox with the hdtv hook up and the picture is great but xbox does not line double there movies only games. Also any one know an easy way to do the red push safely without paying tons?

If you do not currently own a DVD player then indeed buy a progressive scan.
You are correct line doublers in TV's are nearly comparable. Meaning that over a non PS DVD player a PS is only slightly better and you may not see a differrence with a high quality Non-PS vs a low quality Ps DVD player

Any suggestions on a good high quility PS player or should I wait for the new HD DVD to come out? I would hate to spend $1000 to $2000 on a good player just to have the new HD ones come out a year or two later.

When I got my 65819 a few months ago, I also replaced my first generation RCA DVD player with a Mitsubishi DD-8020 PS DVD player to take advantage of the enhanced picture quality over s-video. A friend of mine has the 65869 but with a non-PS DVD player, and the difference is very noticable, even when making a 30min drive between our TVs! The color depth and quality as well as the overall picture quality is brighter and more enjoyable.
I got the 8020 mainly because it was a quality PS player and would work with the Mitsub. remote out of the box (wasn't sold on the NetCommand stuff... yet) and the player is only $300, and is Mitsub.'s top end player... I hope this helps.

1. HDDVD players are probably a couple of years away.

2. An excellent PS DVD player can be had for $500. (Very good ones are $3-400) No need to spend $1-2k. Law of diminishing returns and all that.
