I'm a new owner of a 65 in. Mitsubishi widescreen HDTV. (The TV does not have the built in thingy to pick up HD local channels with antenna) but I'm currently subscribed to Direct TV and was thinking of getting a HD receiver. The question is should upgrade from Direct TV, or go out and buy an HD reciever from Best Buy? Will I still need to set up an antenna to get local HD programming? What should I look out for getting the best picture? Also, will I need to upgrade my dish? It's currently capable of providing 3 rooms with Tivo. Sorry for all of the questions, i  :mic: f anyone can help me out i'd be very thankful.

Will I still need to set up an antenna to get local HD programming? Yes

The question is should upgrade from Direct TV, or go out and buy an HD reciever from Best Buy? A Directv HD receiver would also allow you to hook up an antenna to receive locals if your in range of them in addition to the channels you already have.

Also, will I need to upgrade my dish? You need a 3 LNB dish, if yours has 3 LNB heads on it you should be ok, if not, you need to change it or add the 3rd head if yours is capable of having another added.

You should search around a lil here, I've seen people who are exisiting Directv customers call up and complain to Directv or threaten to leave for another service (like Voom) in order to get a discount on a HD receiver, might be something you want to try.

Call DirecTV and ask for an upgrade package. There are many success stories.
It may take multiple calls to get what you want, as inexpensive as possible.

Also, you can also ask to speak with someone in "Customer Retention". Be persistant!
