Question For The Mods

I bought a Hughes E86 high def directv receiver and now I'm with Voom and renting their hd receiver. I would like to buy a high def recorder but it seems that with either receiver I would need- but do not have, firewire I/O needed to hookup and record hd. I guess I'm looking at d-vhs recorders although one with a hard drive would be fine also. Does any manufacturer make a hdtv recorder that I can hook up to either receiver to record in hd at this time or in the near future? Is firewire the only way to hookup and record hd?

No. You would need to upgrade your E-86. Only two legal choices at present when it comes to satellite HD recording: DISH 921 or DirectTV HD Tivo. Only rumors so far when it comes to Voom HD DVR’s.
As far as D-VHS recorders they are only good for OTA HD recording, D-Theater playback, and firewire enable set top boxes.
