As a western canuck I have despised D-VHS from day one, I have issues with $1500+ vhs machines in this day and age no matter how many 45 hour SD quality tapes I can record. I even quit reading the excellent Widescreen Review because they praise this format. It will be interesting to see how much space in the magazine is devoted to D-VHS this time next year or 06. Nowhere to rent, ok I'll replace my dvd collection with 1080i TAPE so I can see true hi-definition, wait a minute, not all of the studios are releasing D-theater movies? aw man now what? I'll tell ya what, punt these machines back over the Pacific.

Since there is currently no other way to archive HD, I guess it has it's purpose. Also, it was basically almost the only way to record HD, until recent introductions of HDDVRs, which still are not available in some areas. BTW, these (D-VHS decks) are available for about US$400.

They certainly are an anachronism in today's digital age though..
