There's a very good chance!
Plug in three 99 cent RCA audio cables (make sure you don't mix up the cable colours) and see if you notice a difference - you may not, if the distance is less than 6'.
As long as you have good solid connectors and the appropriate length, most people will not see a difference on the shorter lengths. I'm not suggesting to use the 99 cent cable, just making a point that it's often not necessary to buy $100 cables.

Imagine that ;) . It is like people who spend $15-$20 on a 'coaxial digital cable'. A .99'r accomplishes the same thing. It's like people that 'think' a cable needs to 'burn in' before the sound is right. Kinda stands to reason if a cable does indeed 'burn in', the damn thing would 'burn out' as well :rofl2: . If you can, return the $80 set and use the less expensive set. :smokin:

belden and canare are also excellent brands without the Monster Cable BS hype.
i think the fact of the matter is if the cable is carrying a digital signal.. its either on or off.. there is no inbetween
whether it is lamp wire
monster cable
regular ****
doesn't matter if it gets from point a and is received at point b the quality should be the same.
A friend of mine is a sound technician for rock bands.. and he laughs when people worry so much about speaker cable.. he always tells me to use 12guage lamp wire.
I remember when I got my grand wega I went back to brack electronics and said I want to get some good cable to hook up my dvd player. I bought a 240 dollar (at the time) sony progressive scan dvd player. So he whips out this cable and tells me this is the best they have in the store.. the ultimate cable. I ask how much, 3ft... $240bucks. Umm sir do you have anything a little cheaper.
then he went on about how I bought this good tv you don't want to put ****ty cables on blah blah. Umm my dvd player was less than your 3ft of cable. Needless to say I ended up with an inbetween monster cable.
Adam, we were discussing component video cables, which carry analogue signals. Althought in short lengths almost any cable will do the job, once you get to lengths of 20+ feet, you really need to get good quality - you can make these longer runs, if required, yourself using RG6, or have them made for about $100.
As previously stated, for shorter runs the $25-50 cables are more than adequate for most people.

Gotta agree with Max on this one. All these expensive wires are not crap. They are just overpriced is all. But I can relate to your story. Pretty humorous. :smokin:
Since we are telling stories :)
I was at my favorite A/V store talking to the sales guys and a customer comes up and asks if component video cables have memroy. Seems he has a new Dish 811 receiver and is having some problems with PQ, colors.
He has a ps DVD direct to the TV via component, Dish 811 direct to TV via component. He's getting screwy colors from the 811. Good PQ from the DVD.
He has swapped cables between inputs to the TV and between 811 and DVD player. He's done the right things (IMHO). Problem stays with the 811.
He says the Dish CSR told him its not the 811 and that after swapping cables he should wait a while before checking the PQ because of the memory in the cables.
This guy was serious!

I had something similar happen to me at Circuit City. I went to look for some AR component cables and couldnt find them. So i asked the salesman if he could show me where they are. He walked over to the monster cables and told me these were better than AR. I asked him why? He started spewing all sorts of crap and ended it with "All high end HT systems use only Monster"
So i told him, "If he could prove to me right then and there the difference between Monster and their other component cables i would buy his most expensive one." Of course he just looked at me and couldnt say anything. I walked away and went somewhere else to buy them.

That's right up there with the MIT cables I bought (and returned)
after I was told to let them break in for 2 weeks. I did... and then re-installed my Radio Shack S-Video, digital coax (RG6 with screw-on F connectors) and my 14 gauge speaker wire from Home Depot.
Best $250 I ever saved. (It was worth the 80 mile drive!)

I was recently helping my Dad shop at CC for a HTIB system. The salesman of course recommended Monster, with the same type of line. I replied that high end buyers used custom built cables, the rest of us can stop at Target on the way home.

My 11.99 6ft Philips cables from Sears that I just bought are just fine. Monster is great at marketing. Plus, these are very high margin items for stores like BB and CC. I even had them pushed on me at BB when buying an antenna.

I bought a huge 100' spool of RCA brand heavy speaker cable at Home Depot for the same price of monster 20' length in the same guage. I compared the 2 and saw no visible difference.

in monsters defense, im sure there cable will last 99 times longer than a 99 cent cable will.
and if it doesn't they will replace it (lifetime garauntee!)
can your .99 cent cable say that...huh, yeah i didnt think so!!! LOL
im only playing.
i know monster probably did nothing for my hometheatre system, but i couldnt bring myself to buy cheap cables on my stuff. i guess im a victim to advertising.

For the hell of it i hooked up a klisph speaker with monster speaker wire and one with cheaper home depot crap. i heard more bass from the monster wire personally. Id have to say the speaker wire does make a differance especially now since more new speakers dont deliver much bass with the push on using a sub. As far as component cables ect. The margin is lower in monster than other cables fyi
