Hi,
I recently purchased a new tv (sony kv-34hs420) and I am now looking for a dvd player to get the most out of my tv.

I have read many posts but I am still confused so I thought I would list my questions all in one post.

1-i know I want one with progressive scan but do I also want one with 5.1? what is 5.1? should I get one with 1080i options?

2-is there a player out ther with all three of these or do you choose what you want between them?

3-i see a lot of talk about denon products, what would be the lowest model I could get and retain all the functions for good viewing?

4-can all the better players play mp3,vcd,jpeg,dvd-r,dvd-rw etc...?

5-what will the industry standard be in the future? I would like my player to be as relevant as possible in the coming years.

6-what would you reccomend in the $100-200, for a solid player (for friend)
what would you reccomend in the $250 and up range, for a solid player (for me)

7-I also am looking into gettin surround sound, what are some brands I should look into or any specific systems you could reccomend?

Sorry so many questions!! and I am very thankful to anyone who can help
Matt

Questions 1-2-4-5-6
Sonys new DVP-NS975V coming in September should mate perfectly with your new TV. $300us.
As for your friend try the DVP-NC875V in August. $150us.
Both are SACD players as well.

BTW if you are "looking to get the most out of your TV" this forum is a great place to research your HD options/providers :smokin:

-NAD
-Marantz

Speakers:
-Paradigm
-Def Tech
-Canton
-PSB

Subs:
-Velodyne

If you let us know how much you are willing to spend we could show you some nice options in your price range.

Thank you both deckard and max for your responses.

Deckard, i'll look into those. As far as the options for providers, I go through my cable company and the box has a built in converter but I only get 6 channels now, so yeah I would be interested in that.

Thanks

Max,

I really don't how much it would be but a medium priced solid system. I have an old reciever. Should I get a new one?

Thanks
