I was wondering if amps really help. Do they cause distortion or static. If I use a DB 4 would I need an amp. I live 36 miles from the towers in Dallas.
This is my first post!!!! :D
Welcome to HDTVoice!
RF amplifiers do work fine, but I do have a request.
At first blush I'd say you don't need one at 36 miles with the DB4. Cut/Paste the results you got at www.antennaweb.org for us. Use your full address and answer all the questions. Click on 'Show Digital Stations Only' before cut/paste.
If you do have to go with an amp, it should be mounted as close to the antenna as possible. You want to amplifiy the cleanest signal possible.
Using an amp when you don't need one can be a bad thing too.

Lee,
Here is the info for my area. I was also wondering what amplifier you would recommend. One last note. When I check the strength meter on my channels I get an average of 50-70 on 1/100 scale. I mean I get the channels but should I strive to get the levels higher. :wow:

I would use one, Multiple things could make your signal fluctuate. Even though you get 50/70, I would rather have 70/90 for an assured signal.

This is what I use.

When you say you check the signal strength meter ... do you mean your set has a built in meter that shows the strength or do you have a seperate signal strength meter.
If so, what brand is it and where did you get it and how much are they?

A decent signal strength meter will run about $800 or so...At least that is what I pay for them.
*edit* Disregard this post. I thought you were talking about a meter for CATV. You can do a search on ebay for signal meter however. about 10 bucks it looks like...
