I am in Baton Rouge, LA and another OTA antenna newbie. Anyway, here are my results from antennaweb.org:
* yellow - uhf WGMB-DT 45 FOX BATON ROUGE LA TBD 267° 14.3 45
* yellow - uhf WLPB-DT 27.1 PBS BATON ROUGE LA 284° 10.4 25
* yellow - vhf WBRZ-DT 13.1 ABC Baton Rouge LA 254° 9.7 13
* green - uhf WAFB-DT 9.1 CBS BATON ROUGE LA 310° 11.6 46
* red - uhf WBTR-DT 19 IND BATON ROUGE LA 02-05 311° 12.2 19
* violet - uhf WVLA-DT 34.1 NBC BATON ROUGE LA 309° 4.8 34

Am I correct in my assumption that the only way to get the red/violet stations is with a large outdoor antenna? I am leaning towards the amplified wineguard squareshooter in the attic. Should I be able to get the yellow AND green stations with this antenna? Is there a better choice?

Thanks,

drsung

Looks to me like you're going to need an antenna on the roof with a rotor.

You have a 60 degree spread and distance to the worst case x-mitter is 46 miles. That's not taking into account trees, height, etc.

My opinion... a real antenna, outdoors.

The last number listed is the frequency assignment not distance. Do you have any idea why a x-mitter so close is rated violet? Are you behind a hill or what?

Yup...my bad. Looked too quickly!
But... a rotor is still a likely probability.

Maybe he's below sea level in a bayou. :)

Transmitter power or obstructions is about all it can be.

I've seen this many times when looking up zipcodes at www.antennaweb.org. I haven't gotten much feedback to learn what the causes were. :(

We've also had 'glitches' at www.antennaweb.org too. The guy throws up an indoor and picks up stations he should not be able to.

You've just go to put an antenna up and see. www.antennasdirect.com and www.radioshack.com are good choices because they have good return/exchange policies.
