Hello everyone. I just broke down and decided to live the :usa1: American dream and be in debt, but I have my new Sony HDTV to help me (KV34HS420). My question relies around this TV and the new Sony said to be released in September. September seems so long away, and I'm wondering, with a Sept. release, does this usually mean late Sept, or beginning that I will see this in retail stores, ala' BestBuy, CC...etc? Also, with this being a newer TV, will I gain anything by upconverting the image to 720p or 1080i, or would the TV take care of this for me? I will defintely use the HDMI connects for video.
Thanks all, have a good weekend.

I too am waiting for this or the new Samsung HD941. While the Sammy has a September 30 release date, the Sony does not. So at this point we can only assume. As for the difference with upconverting DVD players, it has been talked about and while some videophiles see a difference, others don't. I guess you'll have to ask your own eyes that question and see for yourself. :wow: Since Sony will go HDMI, it only makes sense to use that. Hope that helps, you too have a good weekend.

I just read a review on the dvp-ns975v, and it states the up-scaling is achieved using a HDMI connection. Does any one know if this player will connect to a DVI port of a hdtv without using an adapter?
Plus, an excuss my ignorance, but the review also states the player up-scales MPEG-2 dvd-video. Does this mean it will not up-scale standard dvd's?

Well... if the DVD player only has an HDMI output, I would assume that you would need an adapter of some sort for convert to DVI.

IMO... if your TV doesn't have an HDMI input, look for another DVD player.

I read on another site after posting this that there are cables that are Hdmi in & Dvi out.

I believe that 'regular' DVDs are MPEG2.... or am I thinking Satellite compression? or both?

cdnscg, not an ignorant question at all,
Lee

Yes, DVDs are MPEG2.

Be aware that HDMI carries digital audio AND video. There is a chance that if you use a 'transceiver/converter' of some sort, you may get acceptible results for the video aspect, but depending on the DVD player, there may be other caveats that you or I am aware on the audio.

Just a word of caution... and trying to save a few $$ and aggrevation.

Thanks to both. This player has yet to hit the stores, and I plan to see it in action, in the store & at home, before making my final payment. I'll keep posting what I discover. My hopes are that it will perform well with the Sony 60xbr hdtv I have.
