This is the FIRST race I have seen that is in (I think) HD  !!! Even the commercials (NBC genereated) have the side bars in a translucent thingy that fills the screen and I for one REALLY REALLY LIKE IT  !!! Man oh man this is why I bought HD :love2:  :drool2: !!!

They are broadcasting in Widescreen and they are broadcasting the 4:3 commercials with color bars. I really like that, I hope all commercials start that practice.
However, I don't believe this is HD. I think we are seeing widescreen SD. The PQ looks just like the fox widescreen NASCAR races and not close to true HD. Switch over to the "Champ Car" race on HDNet and you can see a huge PQ difference with real HD cameras.
Yes it's Widescreen SD. And I too like the panel bar blur, I wish others would do that as well, Especially TNT!!! ESPN used it a couple of times during an HD game when they had some clips. Well it took us a year to get ESPN to stop stretching, I wonder how long TNT will cut the garbage and increase their HD programming

No Nascar in HD today...HD cameras could all be in Greece, after all the Olympics start in 5 days !

 Well this is the best SD picture I have seen then ;) . I just kinda figured they were :mic: 'testing' seeing as how the olympics start friday. Regardless it is wonderful! And I truely hope the colored sidebars are a permanent decision!!!
I was kinda wondering if it were HD 'cause the audio isn't 5.1 :( ...
NBC did the Daytona in HD. Fox did the intervening races, then NBC did the last few races in SD widescreen.
I don't believe the NBC cameras are in Greece - aren't they getting the signals from HDNet?

I missed Daytona :( ...As for the cameras being in Greece, I certainly hope they are. I did not know NBC would trust anothers feed of something so monumental as the olympics in HD. I have no clue...
I beleive NHK is doing the HD feed, NBC might have some of their own stuff, but it will be completly different from the SD stuff that they shoot, with other announcers and stuff. But at least it will be 57 min segments of pure olympic sports with none of the other stuff...

Yes it's Widescreen SD.
Is it really SD widescreen? (480i)
or ED widescreen? (480p)

It's hard to say for sure. Fox Widescreen has always been 480p (ED) and they have been running most of the NASCAR races this season. Maybe NBC used the same camera crews.
Since the local NBC station takes the national feed and upconvertes it to 1080i, your really can't tell what the original signal was.

The last sentence is correct. ;). For the winter olympics in 2002, NBC got the entire feed from HDNet, if I recall correctly. Both of NBC's HD cameras at the time were in Jay Leno's studio ;)
