I recently bought one of these wal-mart special HDTV receivers in the hopes that I could get the olympics in HDTV on my Samsung Widescreen HDTV. I get ABC, PBS, and CBS just fine, but I can't seem to get NBC at all. My local station for NBC in Peoria, IL is WEEK TV (www.week.com). When I use the Add Channel function with this receiver, it shows high signal strength, but then says the scan failed. Oddly, the working channels show a low signal strength, but still scan ok. Should I try a more expensive receiver?

This thread is old but I am looking into this receiver and Andrew never got a response. Is there anything wrong with getting a low-end receiver? What's the difference?

It works, but is not as 'effective' with combating multipath and locking on to weak signals as 'name brand' receivers.

With the right terrain, antenna, transmitter power, etc. the receiver should be fine.

Try it and if it doesn't work out, it should be returnable.
