I bought a set of component cable to hook my sony 51 HDTV to DVD players (Apex and lite-on). However, the pictures are lot worse than s -video or RCA (yellow) connection. They are very dark and almost like black and white. I tried to adjust color and brightness but it did not make any difference.
Can anybody help?
Thanks
Most TVs have different calibration points for the various inputs. For example one input may be significantly lighter or darker than another. Usually it's not that far off, but sometimes it can be (as you've noticed).
Read the FAQ on "What you need to do to your new HDTV" to help you understand some more, and perhaps to do some tweaking. If you've still got a major problem, I'd contact the store where you bought it and complain and/or get the set calibrated.

Thanks.
Turn out my component cable was too long (25ft). I tried a 6 ft cable before giving up on component connection and it worked. Now I have to move my DVD player to next to my TV set. I wonder if there is a cheap component amplifier to fix this problem. Or maybe a better set of component cables.

Better cables will suffice.
If you must use 25ft. It may be less expensive to make your own with using RG6 coax and some RCA connectors.

By any chance was the cable not inserted properly. When I switch btween Xbox and the DVD -player this happens if one of the 3 are not seated tightly at the connector or if I accidently swap Blue for Green.
Could this be that he is not used to a progressive scan connection? I sure know when people come over to the house they are not used to the darkness of "true black" and they are used to more of a bright washed out picture on regular TV's.

Ratman:
Thanks for the info. I didn't know that you can make component cable from RG6. I bought a 1000 ft roll for in house wiring. Do you know where can I get RCAs to do my own cable?
By the way, all 3 cables are connected correctly. I actually tried to disconnect one at a time and then put them back on.

You can try R/S... I've used RG6 with F to RCA adapters.
You can also try www.partsexpress.com they have most every connector you need.
I believe most use what's called 'snap and seal' connectors.

Thanks for your help. I moved my DVD player closer and used a 6ft component cable. Last night I was going to use the 25 set cable for something else then I found out that the blue cable had bad connection. I took your advise and used RG6 to replace it. It worked. I was able to use my 25 ft component cable to hoop up my DVD player to my sony 51" TV. The picture is as good as using 6 ft cable. I guess here the length (up to 25) is not a problem.
I still can not receive NBC HD although I got perfect picture with analog NBC channel.
Thanks

What Tv do you have? Is it a RPTV? Sometimes tweaking the convergence and using a HT tuneup disk can improve the non hd digital PQ. Most time ther is no help for the analog pq -GIGO- Garbage in Garbage out.
BTW some of us are not that hip in the internet shorthand. We have the time to read the question, take the time to use full sentances and words. Preferably with correct grammar, Spelling is not an issue because I suck at it and I am the King of typos.

Okay wise guy.
My response was in repsonse to poor spelling or... whatever it was.
Your 'attack' in the other thread was unfounded.
If you would like to discuss or have a problem with the way I choose to perform my moderation on this forum, feel free to PM me and/or the other moderators.
Consider this a fair warning (based on my opinion and complaints from other posters).

Has anyone checked this out?? Can find it on Onecall.
It has user selectable 540p. 540p??
Would anyone tell me how I could have posted that link?
What's wrong with the spelling? Clear/concise? Perhaps not.
Still, no reason for your flame IMO.
And... that's the way I take it. That simple...
