I recently bought a 61" Hitachi HDTV, and have hooked one of my computers up to it. The best resolution I have managed to get is 800x600, which doesn't look that great on this huge screen. My video card supports much higher res, so I am assuming it is a limitation of the set or something. Has anyone done this with their HDTV? I would like to hear your thoughts, experiences....
Thanks!

I have a Mitsubishi with a VGA input, however it only supports a resolution of 640x480. You can imagine how bad that looks.
I have borrowed a friend of mine's laptop. His video card has a composite TV out. It works very well. Supports any resoulution.

You must use the S-Video connection from you PC to your TV. You didn't mention what connection you were using, but the regular composite (rca) connection will always look awful no matter what resolution you select. I use my analog TV as a monitor, was too nervous about screen burn for my HDTV so I haven't tried it yet, but even on my analog TV, the picture looks lousy with a regular composite cable, but with S-Video, it is crystal clear. What can also help is to change your font for Windows to something big, there are even special fonts that you can get for displaying on a TV (search the internet). The thing that looks the worst is small font, so this can help alot. I think you should be able to get a good picture on your HDTV.

I believe that unless you have a monitor DB9 input on your TV you might as well forget it. The SV Input is ok but you will be dissapointed. The only thing that might work is some kind of adapter to convert you monitor output from a computer to Composite input on your TV. Better yet have it convert to HD. I do not think such a beast exists yet but lets hope one comes out.

You can get a VGA to Component converter from Audio Authority. There is a huge movement regarding Home Theater Computers. These are able to output in HD. You might want to read up on them at avsforum.com

I use an HTPC and definitely reccomend the HTPC forum at AVS Forum (http://www.avsforum.com). Nothing like having a progressive scanned and scaled DVD at 1920x540p, or playing "Need for Speed" at 1920x1080i. Awsome stuff!

I agree. The HTPC is the future. I am in the process of getting mine together.
You forgot, you can record too.

Well, maybe other folks can record with it, but with no OTA signals for me at the moment, here in New Orleans, there is nothing for me to record. So I always forget that little tidbit. Excellent point, though!
