Why Does This Happen?

I've had a situation a coupla times now with my gray motorola STB from Adelphia. The box gets unplugged for some reason (usually because I'm adjusting some other device, and I'm so dainty I accidentally pull out the plug). Then when I plug it back in, it's dead. No display, won't turn on, won't respond either to the remote, or pushing the "power" button on the front. Just dead. RIP.

This has happened late on a Saturday, so I have to wait until Monday to take it back and swap it out. Meanwhile, about 18 hours later (literally) up pops the display and all is well. Anybody know why that is? :confused:

For 18 hours???

When it was first installed, I only had to wait 5, and, even then, it was at least on, even though it was not receiving. Plus I was warned by the tech that it would take a few hours for the DL.

Here its just total d-e-d, MIA, OTL, flatlined, no lights camera action, d-u-n, until it decides to resuscitate itself.


The situation has taught me to be a little more graceful when futzing with the equipment, though.

Basically when you unplug the box, it loses its memory (authorization). Yes it can take anywhere from 5 minutes to several hours to self 're-authorize' itself (linking back to the cable co computer). It is possible the cable co computer had a glitch as the reason your box took so long. Next time it happens (we've learned our lesson about unplugging the box, right ;) ?) call your cable co (someone is usually on call) and have them re-authorize the box while you are on the phone with them. If your cable co does not have anyone on call (unlikely) then you have to wait until the box re-authorizes or monday morning to call. Hope this helps...

I did call and they gave the box a "hit" from the office, but it didn't do anything.

And, yes, I certainly did learn about trying to improve my agility when messing with my equipment.!! :sobbing:
