Had the misfortune of discovering this software bug my first weekend with the Dish 811 HDTV box. The Interactive Dish Channel (100 I believe) turns the video off to the TV if you scroll to it which I did three times this weekend. To get the video back you have to totally repower the box by holding down the power button for 10 seconds and/or total unplugging it. I talking to Dish technical service this morning about it, and they are aware of the software incompatibility with HDTVs. They are working on a software patch allegedly but be warned, stay away from the interactive channels for the time being.

I have to unplug mine about every two days to get the sattelite feed to display again. If it wouldn't have been free, it'd be sent back by now.

Robnix,
It's not the box but the software that is downloaded from the satellite that is the problem. I believe if you are careful to avoid actually scrolling or selecting from the menu guide, one of the interactive channels, you can avoid this problem which is why I posted the caution. The software will be downloaded automatically I believe once they have the patch available according to the Dish tech I spoke with this morning. Until I associated the problem with the interactive channels, I thought I had gotten a bad box that I would have to exchange for a new one which is what happened with the Dish 510 PVR receive I got 9 months ago.

Kevin,
Thanks for the thread. After reading it, I went out and bought a 2-way splitter to connect my antenna to both the Dish 811 box and my HDTV. It appears the Dish software has more "undocumented features" than Windows XP!:sobbing:

Thats a funny way to put it. Most peoples have not had the issues that the early beta consumers did. I am on my 4th or 5th SW update and it has only gotten better. My only 2 issues left is the acquiring signal glitch and the 49% Multipath issue.

Kevin,
I have the acquiring signal issue but what exactly is the 49% multipath. Is that when it shows 49% signal strength then goes to the splash that says unable to get signal then comes back with 61% or greater and you get a picture? If so, I have that one too for my ABC (UHF52) HD station. I spent at least 1 hour this past weekend on the phone to Dish Tech Service and rebooting my box 3 times due to that Interactive Channel problem. Having two antenna feeds just increases my recliner chair HDTV watching time during these periods! ;)
