Hey All, I'm new to this sight, so if anyone has already asked sorry. I recieve hd ota from an antenna on my roof. My antenna was disconnected for about 2 months while my home was being remodeld. When i hooked it up again, I had lost everything. Even my reg. stations had very poor reception. I do not think my antenna has moved. Is it possible a tree that is about 20 yards away, has grown enough to block my reception? Does the signal go by line of sight?
Help. Any response or suggestions would be great.

htguy, welcome to HDTVoice!

Have you checked the cables and connectors?

I have big trees between me and the transmitters, I hardly see any change in signal strength when they have leaves or don't..

Make sure the connectors haven't become damaged or corroded.

I would verify the antenna orientation, might have been moved?

... also check to make sure the center conductor of the coax hasn't been bent or broken.

Welcome to HDTVoice htguy  ...

Your house was remodeled? Did you have new siding put up? A staple or a nail through the cable or twin flat lead could case the symptoms you describe. Also, as Ratman suggested, the center conductor could be broken or bent. Also as LeeS suggested, double check the connectors are not corroded or the cable pulled out of a fitting (connector)...

Thanks for the input. I got a new cable and ran it from the antenna directlly to the tv. The reg. channels are crappy. So the HD wont come in at all.

Any other suggestions? htguy

You running the antenna to an external STB or directly to the TV (if it has a built in tuner)?

What happens if you connect a 'regular' TV (portable) to the antenna?

Are you sure the antenna hasn't moved? Re-check aiming.

Did you replace the balun? (the thing that converts twin-lead to coax).

H-m-m-m... works fine to a regular TV, but not the HD set?

Then it must not be the antenna or cabling.

Then... it must be the HD set!

Either a bad receiver or perhaps the antenna input of the TV is set to 'cable' instead of 'air'?

Good call Ratman :overclap: ...I would suggest checking the cable/air setting to ensure it is set on 'air'...

I third the suggestion. I just got a TV from my dad who past away. He was on cable and I use satellite/OTA antenna. I couldn't get UHF at all and thought there was a problem with my cabling or line amp. Then I checked the input and it was set to cable instead of antenna. Changed it, and now it works like a champ.
