I wanted to purchase one of the Panasonic DVD recorders with a built-in hard drive. I was warned that the built-in TV Guide system that utilizes for delayed recording would not allow me to use the S. video input(the TV Guide system will only input using the composite output from the digital box). I contacted Cox cable and the technician verified this information. I asked him if the video commander, the wire device that goes from the digital box to my VCR with an infrared output, would turn my unit on if I programmed it. He told me that they specifically would not do this and that Cox would not enable it in the future because they were afraid of copyright issues. If all of this is true then I will probably have to use my JVC super VHS VCR to record the games. How much of a quality drop-off do you get when you change the speed to LP from SP? :usa1:

You will get BETTER quality video from SP than LP...

I have read quite a few articles regarding DVD recorders stating that the fastest (best two) speeds are quite good - 480i, however, when you go to the longer recordings, since it's digital, you're basically recording with 240 lines of resolution, since the recorder "drops" every second line.

I'm really interested in knowing if anybody knows a workaround to the problem of programming the pana for timeshifting while using the s-video output from the cable box.
