I had heard rumors that the FCC was going to force the cable companies to supply HD receivers with Firewire (1394) ports. Not sure if this is true or not, but I now have the SA3250HD (with firewire ports) instead of the SA3100HD unit from Charter.

To my main question, sometime ago I read in Macworld about hooking you Macintosh computer up to the firewire port on the reciever and making act as a digital recorder... Has one tried this or maybe have some more info on this??

Look in the HTPC forum (near the bottom of the "home" page). Many people have done this, however, also check out the caveats in the FAQ on "Recording HD".
