:drool11:
I checked at Best Buy and they told me they will have the HD Tivo around Christmas.
Called two other local dealers and got a shrug from one and the other never called back. They must not have any yet or like the Dish DVR 921, they are realeasing only a few at a time to certain dealers.
Our BlockBuster store has DirecTV signs all over the place but when I asked about a HD Tivo I got that 'deer in the headlights' look.
The whole HD DVR situation is saddening (or maddening). Maybe it will pickup come Christmas? But that is what I thought about the DVR-921 last Christmas. :(

I was in a local BB here, they had about 40 HR10-250's stacked on a pallet for sale and their website is showing a few other locations around me having them in stock. Should be only a matter of time before they show up in your area.
Ohh and Dwight, there will only be two HD models for next year (a standard and the HD Tivo model), D* is going to branded receivers, no other manufacturer will be making models for them.

What month will they be released? I'm thinking about buying now or waiting for the newer model.

They are both available now, don't know what the timeline is to replace the new models. You can find other current models out that are still left in stock also. What's your reasoning for waiting for a newer model? Your just missing out on HD now if you do.

I have the first generation Hughes HD box without DVI input and I want to buy the most current model when I do decide to upgrade. Does DVI really make a difference in the HD picture? What about the picture on standard channels?

In the case of a RP CRT TV, not much if any noticeable difference. Now a newer receiver might have better PQ then a first generation though...

getting back to the topic question.
the new models for year 2005 have to be shown first at the CES show in Las Vegas.
then they will show up in stores.
