I am ready to pull my hair out. I have had a DTV receiver with HDTV. Hughs E86 Platinum. I lost my signal on all my OTA channels in the winter and finally have found time to try and fix it. I moved the antenna every way possible and can only get a signal on channel 9 WGN in Chicago. The signal strength on channel 9 is 94% but all other channels are either 0% to 30%. Before I lost the strong signal all channels were 90%+ except for channel 2 CBS which is impossible to get.

I am about ready to rip all this crap off my roof and forget all about HDTV. What a pain in the azz.

Someone please help!

Thanks

Check all connectors.

If you let us know what kind of antenna, how is it cabled from the antenna to the TV would help.

Any amps, pre-amps, splitters?

OTA only or satellite also?

Diplexers?

Easiest way to test is to temporarily install a run of coax directly from the antenna to the STB.

Also, make sure the antenna is aimed properly,
www.antennaweb.org
can provide an accurate direction.

Ratman,

I am running a VU-90 XR from Radio Shack I believe. The coax goes direct from the antenna to the rear of the HDTV receiver Hughs HIRD E86. The STB is both DTV and OTA.

I am not using any amps, splitters, or diplexers. It is a straight shot from the antenna to the box. What would cause me to get a great signal on one station and crap on the others?

Bad connector, corrosion, broken/bent wire, bad balun, bad aiming, etc.

Have you tried powering the STB off for a few hours. The Hughes boxes are know for overheating.

Have you tried to 're-scan' for digital channels?
Are you sure that the STB is set to "air" and not "cable"?
