can anyone recommend a good used hdstb that can be used for directv? i'm looking for one through ebay since i can't work out a deal with D*tv. they want me to commit to a year of total choice and i have no interest in that. basically want it for nflst and espnhd. thanks

Ah... I believe that even if you were to get a used STB, they still may require you to commit as well as get a new card.
If you are already a subscriber, you may be able to negotiate deactivating your old STB and activating the new (used) one without a commitment. But...

they don't make it easy! i have talked to them about it and they said if i went the used way i wouldn't need to commit but you know how it goes, you never get the same answer from the csr's. i'm gonna make %100 sure before i pull the trigger on a used one.

Absolutely... you can talk to 10 different CSR's and get 15 different answers. Hope it works out for you.

You will still need to get a new access card from them which costs $40. Are you a new subscriber? If so, get the NFL and free equipment and install plus you only pay for the NFL and get 4 months of everything for free. Then cut it down to total choice for the rest of your year.

i have had D*tv for 9 years. first year tc and nflst, last 8 only nflst. they told me this would be last year for just nflst, next year i would need to subscribe to basic tc to be able to get nflst. i see on ebay rca, sony, hitachi, and hughes hdstb to name a few. anyone have any opinions on these brands and there reliablity with hdstb.thanks
