Have had my 52" JVC for a week now. Wanted to ask a question about picture quality settings.

I currently have standard Directv and am using DVI - HDMI connection. I primarily watch alot of football with this tv and I am having trouble getting a blur free picture. I will be upgrading to HD sat in the near future, but a good number of games I watch are not available in HD anyway.

Here is the problem I am having. Camera shots of players close up are good, but when the camera shows the entire field where you can see all players lined up, it is blury. The players look like blobs of color without much detail. I have adjusted the settings endlessly and just can't find the right combination.

Any suggestions please?

I have the 61" and mine has similar problems on non HD football games, although some channels are worse than others. My old 57" sony HDTV had similar drop offs, I just can't remember if it was that big of a difference. I suggest you get HD and the sunday ticket - the majority of the games are in HD now- and they look great. Beware though, if you think the SD looks bad now, wait until your eyes get adjusted to HD - It almost hurts your eyes to go back - Especialy with football.

Have you looked into getting the set calibrated? I know nothing about this, but maybe it could make a difference. I was thinking about doing this on my set, but I want to make sure it's worth it. Anyone have any inputs on this? Is it worth it for a new TV like this one?

Thanks

Any TV will benefit from a proper calibration. Whether you think it's worth it will depend on how good the calibration is, how much you could have done yourself, and to some extent perhaps how much money you have.

Since LCoS is so new, you may simply wish to do a "DVD calibration" with the user settings and then pony up for a professional calibration later.
