Does anyone have or tried one of the new Sony NS775P progressive scan DVD players? If so, what is your opinion of this player? Best Buy have these in stock but I have yet to see them appear on the Sony web site.
I have recently purchased the Sony 60" KF-60WE610 Grand Wega LCD projection TV and have a nearly 3 yr old Panasonic RP56 progressive scan DVD player. Although my Panasonic seems to be working fine, would I be wise to consider the Sony DVD and the latest technology and hope for perhaps little better quality picture or simply stick with my Panasonic? Lets here your thoughts. Thank you.
Personal opinion. If the Panny is working fine and you don't need any newer features, I'd wait and see what is going to happen next year with the HD DVD players.
Some of those older Panasonics were pretty good players.

Rp56 is still one of the best out there. No need to update unless you were going for SACD or DVDA capability.

Fact or opinion? If fact, please state your sources...

AVS, HTS and other satisfied customers.... don't start.
It was equipped with the Faroudja FLI2200 de-interlacing chipset. A feature only found in the more expensive players.
Anytime you see Faroudja or Silicon Image scalers/deinterlacers you should get a warm fuzzy feeling. :)

More expensive does not mean better. Again, this is opinion only. I happen to know that my Pioneer PS DVD player has the best picture of any DVD player. It cannot be improved upon with out bettering the source material first. This is my opinion. The difference being that I am not being paid to give opinions...

For the facts... try performing a few web searches in regard to previous 'opinions'. You will see there are many positive 'facts' in regard to this particular model. Especially when it addresses the issues encountered by many DVD players and the 'Chroma Bug'.

Try that. Google is my friend, and so is remembering the old shootout. Scored very good in the shootout.

"Google is my friend," ...Thats funny :rofl2: ...Just the way you worded it is what I mean... :D
Not to be mean spirited, but take a look at how your Pioneer DV-434 did in the shoot out.
This is a terrible, terrible progressive player (in our opinion). It's a perfect example of a product designed by marketing, trying to snag people who've heard that progressive players are better. In this case, that turns out to be untrue. It has no film mode at all, and it doesn't even have motion adaptive deinterlacing. An interlaced player would be a significant improvement over the DV-434 on almost any TV. Avoid this player!

:rofl2: ...Lee my friend, as in your quoted post stated, "(in our opinion)"...I have had this player for years and it is a fantastic PS DVD player...Still blows away most new players that I have seen connected to the same model TV I have at CC, BB and HH Gregg...But that is my opinion as well...
Point being, if I write it on the web it becomes fact??? No, of course it doesn't. If in print does it make it any more factual? Of course not. How many times have you seen a beauty pagent and thought the runner-up should have won? EVERYTHING is subjective to each individual. There are groups of people that love Bose products while there are others who hate Bose products. Who is to say one group is right and the other wrong?
I do not take your post as mean spirited LeeS. Nor do I mean to be with mine :) ...

So i guess everyone should ignore all the help, opinion and observation that is provided here and on other forums and any review that is posted on the web?
Sometimes ignorance can be bliss.
Splicer,
I don't feel that my post was in the true spirit of this forum.
I thought you'd pick up on the "in our opinion" :)
When I say the RP56 is a very good player, it is not only my opinion but the opinion of many others. If everything you read or hear says its a good player, must be.
I try to base my opinions on what I read, hear from others and experience, as do the other mods. What else is there?
Anyway, we strayed off course,
Lee
bamm1956, keep the Panasonic :) save your $s for something that needs upgrading more or the new HD DVD.

Thanks to all of those that replied. (I didn't mean to open a can of worms). HA. Wow, I had no idea that my RP56 had the Faroudja FLI2200 chip. No wonder I've been pleased with this player! I'm going along with LeeS and hanging on to this player.

Yeah, that's what i would do.I would just keep the player you have and just wait for the new hd dvd players around the corner. My Toshiba dvd player will do just fine untill then:)
Plus your player has the f chip which does a good job of deinterlacing:)
