anyone has this player see much improvement with the faroudja chip it incorparates.unfortunately the new model DD-8040 doesn't have the scaler chip and is scaled back in features(and cost)can get the DD-8040 for under $300 though supply is slim.what do owners of this unit think?worth the extra cost?

If I ever get another DVD player, it will most certainly have the Faroudja chipset in it.
The newest Denon DVD players for 2005 have them in all models.
My JVC DVD player is a poor performer, for example, on my Master Bedroom's HD display using the same type of Mits CRT RPTV, even only a 48-incher.You'd think the picture would be better being smaller than the 65-incher in comparison, but no,as it had poor 2:3 pulldown, runny colours and edge- fringing even with Monster type 2 component cabling.
Then I tried the Pioneer "Pure Progressive" player for DVD/DVD-A/SACD, used in comparison to the Faroudja Kenwood System-1200 with the same Mits 65" CRT RPTV and it showed some artifacts, somewhat poorer imaging and so on in comparison, though not a bad picture, just not the same for the same DVDs I used to compare: Fifth Element, Pitch Black and LOTRs.
I felt the colours, darker images and action scenes for the pulldown would test better against the several models and manufacturers.
There were differences, notable ones, all depended on the players, at least based on my home tests. I ran round of the 3 types of players using their own progressive systems and still came up with the Faroudja as best, so
I will take Faroudja ever time, for smoothness and almost 3-D imaging!
Go with the the model with the chip it it and you won't be sorry. :D

Well I have the Mits 8040 and the player gives out a great picture and sound. I am impressed by it but I am no professional reviewer.
