Have had an HD-52Z585 for a week. My comments, for what they're worth:

1. Widescreen HD programming, such as Monday Night Football and some of the network prime time shows, look superb. It's amazing to think that our kids (I have three) will come to expect this as a minimum.

2. Standard, non-HD programming is OK but not great. Scrolling text, like on cable news, has lots of edge artifacts. My 20-year-old JVC 19" CRT displays those signals better, but that's to be expected with the input data being less than the display area. Still wish this were better. In some ways, my Samsung DLP yields better results, but I can live with the JVC.

3. Movies upconverted to 720p using a Samsung DVD player are also superb (last watched was "Bourne Identity"). I prefer the JVC display over the Samsung DLP at this point because the Samsung suffers from the green hue problem reported by others. (Samsung tech due in a week or two to swap out a board to fix the problem, or so they say.) I'm not sure that "Finding Nemo" is as rock solid crisp on the JVC HD-ILA as the Samsung DLP though -- something about the hard edges found in animation appearing to cause JPEG-like artifacts.

4. The JVC swivel stand is a really nice touch. Makes it easy to watch something while we're in the kitchen. Viewing angles are great.

5. Fan noise is noticeable when there is no other sound in the room, but immediately masked by any TV volume.

6. Having only one RF input is silly -- my Samsung DLP has three -- but I can live with it.

7. I can't believe that HDMI cables are over $100. However, getting a pure digital signal from the Samsung DVD player is worth it. (The TV was just under $3K at a local store, so I can't whine about the price.)

Now, a question. My cable company provided a Motorola cable box and I'd like to get the JVC-provided remote working with it. I don't see anything in the JVC manual about Motorola cable boxes, and none of the codes I've tried work. Has anyone else with a JVC HD TV gotten a Motorola cable box to respond?

7. See the links in the FAQ on DVI cables. I'm sure you can get HDMI cables for less than you said.

8. Try the codes for "General Instruments". If that doesn't work, most remotes have a "search mode" to try to find a "match". Sometimes there is no match, but I would think there will be for the Mot.
