Hi...I just ordered the Zenith DVB318 DVD Player that "upconverts" to 1080i via Component. I will be connecting it to a Mits WD-52525 TV, that supposedly upconverts everything to 720p. I can't find anything that says that it upconverts the DVD signal, so I don't know for certain that it happens to DVD signals.

I guess I have two questions:

1) Does the 720p "upconversion" performed by many new DLP TV's apply to a DVD input signal?

2) If the answer is "yes", is it a waste of money to have the Zenith DVB318? And even if I decide to keep it, am I "interfering" with the input and the TV will end up just displaying at 720p anyway?

Thanks for your help...I REALLY enjoy this site!!! :overclap:

1) Yes, your TV will upconvert your 480i DVD to 720p. Some people buy progressive scan DVD players that will make it a 480p signal before it goes to the set. Depending on the player and the set, one way may look better than another. Upconverting to 1080i and back to 720p may or may not improve PQ. Understand that the DVD is only 480i and everything else that is done to it, may or may not make it better. It will never look like HD however.

2) A waist of money is up to you. Try it and see if there is any PQ improvement. If so, you decide if it is worth the money.

Since your TV is a "fixed pixel" display, every incoming signal gets converted to the native format. Your TV has no choice.
