61 d-ila convergence issue

I've had this set for just a little over a month now and feel positive theres not a better picture on any set out there. Now that i've said that, i can tell you that for the price of this set i would like to at least try and get the picture perfect. I was wondering if anyone has seen a convergence problem in their set. After watching a movie i noticed in the credits that all of the letters had a blue outline to the left and a green tint to the right. I used my VE dvd to test the convergence on the entire screen and the blues are out of convergence to the left all over the screen. If you've got this problem have you had it fixed, looked at, or what would you recommend. Does anyone know how to get into the service menu. thanks for any help

This is a fixed pixel display, therefore it doesn't have "convergence" the way that CRT-based TVs do.

Nevertheless, the "chips" may perhaps be out of line or malfocussed. I'd call the place you bought it and have them "fix" your expensive new TV.

I don't notice a convergence problem, but I do notice artifacting around text similar to what's seen in JPEG images of text, even when displaying a high definition cable signal (e.g., Fox Sports, which in our area has the best signal).

Is this a "feature" of the D-ILA?

I don't seem to notice it as much in my Samsung DLP.

I noticed the artifacting when i first set my tv up using component video cables but when i switched to the hdmi input using a dvi cable the artifacting virtually disappeared. On my convergence issue the reason i was asking for some advise was that i know that from the factory they must have some standards that they must achieve. I was wondering if you might know if this falls under a warranty issue, even if the tv is just a fraction out of convergence. I also understood that this is a fixed panel display, that said what can a service tech do to fix the convergence or must i live with the fact that my 4000 dollar tv is not perfect. Its darn close though and i do know that theres not a perfect tv, but isn't that what were all looking for.

A quick follow up on my previous post.

I use the HDMI input from my Samsung DVD player to get the optimal picture for movies. So my cable box (Adelphia, sucks) uses component in. I have noticed a wide range of quality in HD cable signals, and the better the quality, the less the artifacting.

Fox football is great.

CBS prime time is great.

ABC and NBC are definitely inferior to Fox and CBS.

PBS varies but can be very good.

I've had the 51" version for a couple of weeks now and the picture appears perfect "out of the box." No outline around the lettering on the credits, etc. I bought the AVIA callibration disk, but am almost afraid to use it for fear of messing things up. I realize I can note all of the current settings and go back to them if my own callibration doesn't seem as good. By the way, contrast, as well as all other picture settings are set at mid-range values.

I got the 61" two weeks ago, it is great, but I counted dead pixels, and found 18. My new one comes on Friday.
My wife often complains that colors are off, I have used Sound and Visions disk but I think that this model may have an issue with convergence. It is a 3 chip design, so the light WILL hit each chip differently, and the farther the light has to travel, the more pronounced this difference will be. I would bet that the 52" looks better than the 61 for this reason.

I have also noticed that the corners are darker than the center, another characteristic of RPTVs.

Has anyone tried the HDMI input? directTV is having some trouble with it. I have cox cable, they have not activated the dvi output, so I have no way of making sure mine works.

I have my Samsung DVD player connected to the set via HDMI. The signal is extremely crisp, no artifacting whatsoever.

I do think that some DVDs are darker than I recall the theatrical version being, especially the new Star Wars series.

I haven't taken the time to compare with my Samsung DLP though.

jvc knows they have a problem with the hdmi. many sat boxes cannot use it. there is a fix, but you have to call to get it done.

also, only 2 channel pcm through the hdmi. you'll have to connect seperately to get sound out of your TV speakers.

there are convergence controls in the service menu. I don't know how to do it though.

There are convergence controls in the service menu. I've played with the menu but it only allows you to shift the entire panel not parts of it. You can either move all of the blue panel or all of the red.
