I have a integrated HDTV from Mits.

My OTA antenna is connected directly to the back of the TV. When regular programming is being viewed that is not HiDef, of course I see the bars on both sides of the picture.

I cannot change the aspect ratio so that it will fill up the entire screen.

How can I change this? I am giving up Dishnetwork for a while and all I'll have is local TV.

Should I run the antenna signal through my receiver?

Thanks in advance.

Most TV's do not have a Stretch modes for digital. Wht Dish box were you using? If you still have it, yopu can usse it for OTA only at N/C. Then you can zoom/stretch the digital picture.

I think what kevinw was trying to say was that most HDTVs don't properly stretch HD (720P or 1080i) material. (not digital, which can be 480i or 480P, as well as HD)

dish network 811 reciever will stretch the digital signals. i think this is the only box that will allow you to do this. please correct me if im wrong. im looking for just an ota reciever that will allow me to stretch these programs. i have comcast and love the digital local channels, but i cant stretch them. i end up watching analog locals so i can stretch, but the analog picture sucks.

The SA8000HD DVR can stretch HD, although it's a "linear" stretch (like "full" - 1.33 horizontal), unlike the non-linear stretches of some TVs. There is also a linear "zoom" (1.33 horizontal and 1.33 vertical) The SA3250HD has the same stretch modes.

im a bit confused, so is the stretch modes like partial zoom, full zoom like the 811 reciever. on the 811 partial zoom looks good, people dont look fat and squashed.

It's the full stretch, "fat people" version.
