If you have a fixed pixel digital HDTV (Plasma, LCD, DLP projecttion), I would go with the new Denon DVD-1910 ($249 Crutchfield). I just got this player and I have never see a better image from a DVD. This unit scales up to 720p and 1080i via DVI connection. The image from the Denon are FAR btter than the smasung main because the Samsung can not pass "Below Black" trough DVI so it "Crushes" all the lower levels of black so dark parts of movies look like crap, very blocky.
We had this unit (DVD-1910) connected to a GIII Grand Wega and it was SOOO far better than any progressive scan image (via component) that I have ever seen!
The main reason for this is the fact that the scaling is taking place before being sent to the TV and there is not any digital to analog or analog to digital conversion.
I would HIGHLY!!! recommend this player to anyone with a fixed pixel monitor! I havne't tested it on a CRT yet. I'm betting the benifits over a good progressive scan DVD player would not be as noticeable, with a CRT.

I try to tell others in this forum (other threads) about the Denon DVD players, but no one seems to understand the fantastic quality of their players, DVI or Faroudja (component output)...they all have to try it first, then they are glad they bought it...sheesh!
I will not rehash the details above except to say that a dvd that upscales from 480 to 720p or 1080i digitally and outputs via DVI to a fixed pixel TV display is about the best you can do with currently available technology. You should also output the sound via a digital coaxial or optical cable.

If I were to get the Denon, would I go DVI to HDMI with some kind of adapter?

The denon 1910 is the one I am going to get. I was thinking about the Zenith model - but the denon will suit my needs better.

Hey i bought the samsung 841 heres my thoughts.
cons:The remote kinda sucks have to point it like right at it straight on.
Its pretty annoying when you watch a full screen formatted movie, you have to set it certain way and some times its a hassell (i wish everything was made in 1:85:1).
Pros: While its not "true hd" it gives a great picture. I havent watched a superbit dvd on it yet but all widescreen movies look damn good. I wonder how it will play HD-DVD whenever its realeased.
It looks cool lol
It does play sacd's
Now and days i kinda wished i would have waited for 941 (dcdi), then i hear it had alot of flaws so they took it off the market. I'll leave you with this. When playing a movie the picture look just like one of the cinema 10 channels on voom. So that all i can think of right now.
