I currently have a 53" projection TV. I am considering buying an HDTV. I don't want to lose any size during regular broadcasts. If I buy a widescreen, what size would I need for regular programming(4:3) to be 53"?

Thanks. That's perfect! Exactly what I was looking for.
Remember, however, that burn in can be an issue for CRT-based TVs, so you won't be able to watch 4:3 programmes all the time without stretching, or risking burn-in.
If you get a DLP or LCD-based RPTV the burn in issue goes away, but some people even stretch programmes there, because it then fills the screen...
Check out the FAQs on Burn in, WS TV stretch modes, types of HDTV, etc.
