I recently purchased a Samsung HD841 to go with my Samsung TV...what a coincidence...lol...anyway i love the output of DVDs on this player in 1080i mode no matter how many threads i read on here about how bad it is. The question i had is that in the setup mode there is an option to switch the DVI mode to either A or B. What are the modes for? When i switch them it looks like its doing some res. change but nothing really changes. I dont see any difference between Mode A and B. Jus something i was curious about.

Does the manual have any info?

... and I don't believe that anyone says the upscaling DVD's to 1080i is "bad". The reality is that many expect HD quality from DVD's. For most, the improvement in quality may not justify running out and immediately buying a new player.

It all boils down to the quality of the scaler and the quaity/type of TV and how much $$ one is willing to spend. YMMV

The manual speaks nothing about the modes except that it says it "corrects a biased TV screen to secure a normal view" now that says nothing with out any detailed info. thats why i figured id ask on here.

To expect HD out of a DVD means you dont understand technically whats going on with an upscaling dvd player...yeah the picture looks somewhat better but not $200+ better...now me on the other hand was using my PS2 as a DVD player so i jus said what the hell and spent a little more on a dvd player so i can use DVI.

I emailed Samsung on Monday and today they got me a repsonse which is pretty good service....2 Thumbs up!

"Mode A and Mode B basically are different HDCP Compatability lists.
Mode A being the earlier version may not accept as many TV's as Mode B will. It is possible for your TV to work on both A and B, or just A or just B."

Glad you got your answer...
Darn shame they don't print that info in the manual!

That makes more sense than corrects a biased TV screen to secure a normal view!
