Just curious, do you think someday they will pass video through fiber optic cables? If so then we would never have to worry about shielded cables because fiber optics are immune to interferrance. :sherlok:

Computers use them - can't be too hard :)

Soem cable companies use them to both receive and deliver cable signal as it is and there are high end DVI cables available with fiber optic guts
Rogers cable is mostly fibre until you get to the "last mile". There are already fibre cables available to connect from components to TV - do a web search. Trouble is they're hundreds of $.

I see, ony problem is they are $$, maybe down the road the price will go down.

Fiber will only transmit a digital signal.
Fiber for component video would require conversion from analog to digital.
As it stands today:
Fiber for DVI would require multiple fibers.
Same for HDMI.
That would increase the size of the connectors. Counterproductive.
The hope (and feasible in the future) would be to connect "one fiber" and use what's called DWDM (dense wave division multiplexing). BUT... that is very cost prohibitive for the general consumer.

I was reading/looking at this DVI Fiber Optic Cable a few weeks back
whoa buddy IT AIN'T CHEAP ! (30'=$800 bucks)
The M1-100 is a full 125 Mpixel 7-fiber optical implementation of the DVI standard that supports all VESA modes
up to SXGA (1280x1024p) at 75Hz refresh.
It is applicable to Digital display systems interconnection for Home Theater...
