UGH!! I ordered a Hitachi 65s500 from uecweb.com It was suppose to come this morning. All excited I saw the truck pull up. They got it out of the box (on the truck) got it down on the lift and was about to bring it in, when I heard 'Oh no' from the shipping guy.
I looked around and the whole screen was smashed in. He thinks on it's way from GA that it toppled over. I asked didn't you guy check the TV when it came in? His answer was only to see if there was any damage on the cardboard, that to them it's consealed damage. I live in PA. I was delievered from GA to Harrisburg, PA, then to me.
I refused shipment, and contacted UECWEB and my CC Company. Now I have to wait to see what happens. This sucks, since I waited 3 weeks for the 65" to appear online.

The shipper should end up eating the costs, not sure who's gonna refund what to who though... I wouldn't want that one back after it's fixed if it fell over in the truck by the way... Sorry to hear what happened...

Same thing happened to a guy here at work. He ordered the 65S series also. They dropped it as they were moving it off the truck. H ecalled UEC and got the money credited back to his account asap. Apprently the 65's are heavy.

Thanks all. I haven't heard from either my CC or uecweb yet. This guy told me that he's been in shipping for years. And if something like this happens on the way, they still try to deliver it, hoping the customer will take it. It has to 'run it's process'. What BS. Thing is, I thought it came in two pieces, but it was all together when they unpackaged it.

Two piece TV's are usually shipped as one piece, they just can be taken apart to make them easier to move around the house..

I'm really starting to get pissed. UECWEB won't send out another TV until they get a return number from the shipping company. I called the shipping company twice, all they said is 'they are on it' and haven't called me back like they said they would.
I wrote UECWEB saying I should not be put in the middle of this, and all I want is my TV. God only knows when I'll get another one, and even then I have to cross my fingers and hope it comes without any damage.

As soon as the re-refurb the TV that fell off of the truck, you may have it by Christmas!
(Sorry... I know it's really not funny)

Thanks.. I just can't believe the shipper actually asked me if I wanted to keep it.
Duh.. Yep.. I want it. Smashed screen, and all the internal components are probably totalled f'ed up, but sure why not. $1800 is no big thing. I'll just use it as a planter.
Here's your sign stupid.. :nono2:

Well if that's the case, they will have a lawsuit on their hands. UEC doesn't even have a damn phone number to call. Anyone here might know what it is?

The shipper wanted you to take it, Then it became your problem and not there's. Cancelyour order and wait till a new one comes in or pay more from a retailer. That size and model is hard to come by. Renmember this is a place that moves out refurbished models, It's like waiting for an organ transplant. You have to wait for a TV to die before you can have a repaired one.

Can you get a refund? If you can i would just get a refund and buy the set locally.
Again, it just sucks what happened to your tv:(

They just emailed me. They said they are sending out one today (which is weird since I thought they had to wait until one came in). They said they are using the same shipper.. ugh.. The shipper will contact me when they get ready to deliver it.

I got it, except that is just WAY too big. They forgot the remote as well. I contacted uecweb, hoping they'll take a return but I don't know if they will.
From looking at them in the store and even measuring in my house, it's just alot bigger than I thought it would be. More higher than anything.
As far as the picture, dvds look great, tv looks blah, and the xbox (with hdtv pack) looks pretty bad. I have all the options set on the xbox video settings as well.
I should have gotten something from circuit city, at least I could take it back without question.

Number 1 reason A TV is returned is beacuse of size.
You need to do some tweaking when you get the remote...

How far away are you sitting from it? Sometimes I think my 65 is small now. You have to let it grow on you ;)

It is.. slowly.. I'm like 12-14 feet away. It's mainly the picture quality. I don't have HD yet, so my digital cable has to do for now. What I don't like about it, is I just have 4:3 and 16:9.
I noticed most channels take up the whole screen, however there are some that have a black bar on top & below the picture. The quality of the picture is better. I noticed on my parent's phillips I could change this with a setting on the TV, however on mine I can't.

Analog channels would look bad on a screen that big. If you have digital cable, the channels above 99 would look pretty good. When you get HD you'll be amazed. Some programming will show black bars on top and bottom i.e. SG1 on Sci-Fi. When this happens I zoom the picture, gets rid of the black bars and I dont seem to loose anything on the sides. I compared this by pausing my picture (DVD or DVR) and changing aspects.

There are different zoom modes available on your set.
With typical 4:3 programming I would suggest 4:3 standard, 4:3 expanded, or 16:9 standard. 4:3 standard will leave the aspect unchanged and you will have black bars on the side (or grey if you change your settings). 4:3 expanded will fill the screen by stretching out the sides of the image and bit of the vertical, this gives a disproportionate stretch on the edges but leaves the middle relatively normal. 16:9 standard will fill the screen by horizontally stretching the image equally throughout.
With 4:3 programming that is letterboxed, there are black bars on the top and bottom, try the 4:3 zoom1 or 4:3 zoom2. These modes expand the image both vertically and horizontally and makes a 4:3 letterbox image look like a 16:9 image. The only problem with this is that your are blowing up a low res image so the quality is only going to get worse.
